This year each classroom will be doing a Second Step lesson each week. The lessons vary in topic, but cover many positive areas of social emotional development. Many of the lessons also include home components (worksheet) so that parents can continue the conversations at home and have an understanding of what is being taught. Second Step
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program
Grades K-5
The Second Step Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program is a research-based program for students in grades K-5. The program includes weekly classroom lessons presented by the classroom teacher. The lessons include activities, videos, discussions, and implementation and practice of new skills. These lessons can be integrated into everyday learning and promote school success, school connectedness, and a safe and respectful school climate.
The Scope and Sequence of the program includes:
Unit 1: Skills for learning
Unit 2: Empathy
Unit 3: Emotion Management
Unit 4: Problem-Solving
The lessons are age-appropriate and review concepts from year to year while becoming more involved as students mature.
