Here are a few of the different programs used during social work groups to help meet the needs of our students.
The Incredible Flexible You Vol. 1 is a multi-sensory social–emotional learning package for ages 4–7: five engaging storybooks presenting core Social Thinking concepts about: thoughts and feelings, following the group plan, thinking with your eyes, body in the group, and whole body listening.
How often do you find yourself using phrases with children such as, "pay attention" or "listen carefully"? When we make these requests, we may not realize that we're giving kids an unspoken expectation that we want them to stop whatever they are doing and show us they are listening with their whole body (look at us, keep still, think about what we said, etc.). We feel frustrated and assume they aren't listening, don't want to comply, etc.

Social Thinking and Me is the perfect tool to introduce and teach core Social Thinking Vocabulary and concepts to older elementary school and middle school-age kids (ages 9-13). This two-book set breaks larger and more complicated social concepts down into smaller chunks to make it easier for adults to teach and easier for kids to learn.
The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum geared toward helping students gain skills in consciously regulating their actions, which in turn leads to increased control and problem solving abilities. Using a cognitive behavior approach, the curriculum’s learning activities are designed to help students recognize when they are in different states called “zones,” with each of four zones represented by a different color. In the activities, students also learn how to use strategies or tools to stay in a zone or move from one to another.

We Can Make It Better! is a resource for safe and motivating social problem-solving practice. With the right tools, practice and understanding, students can learn how to make good choices — in their thoughts, actions and words — that result in improved social interactions. "What to Do When You Worry Too Much" is an interactive self-help book designed to guide 6-12 year olds and their parents through the cognitive-behavioral techniques most often used in the treatment of generalized anxiety. Engaging, encouraging, and easy to follow, this book educates, motivates, and empowers children to work towards change. It includes a note to parents by psychologist and author Dawn Huebner, PhD.
Empirically-supported CBT to reduce anxious distress in youth. This newest edition is a revision of the original Coping Cat Workbook by Philip Kendall that has been in use since 1992. Sixteen therapy sessions promote coping skills for dealing with anxiety. The program can be adapted for use with individual youth or with groups. Appendices include 'situation cards' with three levels of difficulty, a 'feelings barometer', as well as other cut-outs and a certificate of achievement. Appropriate for a variety of anxiety disorders in youth ages 7-13; for adolescents, use the C.A.T. Project program by the same author.
